Writer's Block: War and peace [22 Oct 2009|11:44pm]

Many countries require all citizens to fulfill a mandatory period of service in the armed forces. Do you agree or disagree with this policy? Do you think the current recruitment system creates or sustains socioeconomic inequality?

I disagree that people who don't want to should serve. This makes for a crappy soldier. It may be different in other countries where obesity, laziness, etc is not a problem, but I guess for America this would be a terrible idea. And in a country like America, where freedom of speech/lifestyle/etc. are made so important, it shouldn't be fair to people that want to keep their facial piercings or have tattoos on their necks, etc, to join the military where they would have to lose their freedom of expression. I volunteered to be in the military, and I'm volunteering to lose those certain freedoms that others might not be so willing to lose.

As for the second part of the question, you're an idiot and it doesn't apply.

I think the current recruitment system is fine. In America, recruiters don't even have to work to find people willing to join. It's just weeding out the ones that are good enough to join that is the problem. There is no inequality because the military does not discriminate against your "Socioeconomic" status.

Roomies!! please. someone. ugh. [21 Sep 2009|01:06pm]
We are two roommates, male and female, ages 24 and 25 looking for a roommate around the same age. We are currently renting a three bedroom house on the southside of Corpus Christi. We’re near gas stations, an HEB and a Walmart, but who isn’t if you live in Corpus? I have two bedrooms available but only looking for one room to be filled. There are two bedrooms to choose from. The first one is smaller and carpeted, it faces the front yard and is the only bedroom with a cable tv connection (we have direct tv with DVR). The second bedroom is in the back of the house and has a separate entrance. It has linoleum flooring and is the bigger of the two rooms. There is no cable box in this room. The other downfall of this room is that I have two dogs, and when I take them out, they have to go out through that room into the backyard.
If you are afraid of dogs, this is not the house for you. I have a great dane and a collie, I also have a parrot, and two fish tanks. The fish tanks are small. The dogs and bird are not. I can not have any other pets. My great dane is a destroyer of small animals and I am also at the limit of pets that we are allowed to have in the house. A fish tank/reptile terrarium is ok. Please no illegal snakes though. We have a big backyard with a deck and a gazebo, both need to be fixed up and I hope to do this during the winter when it’s cooler out.
We live in a good neighborhood, our neighbor likes to play Tejano music, but it’s never disturbingly loud.

We are quiet people. I don’t drink, and my roomie only does on occasion, but he does not get drunk. No one smokes, and if you do smoke, as per the contract, it must be done outside the house. We are 420 tolerant, neither of us smoke, I’m joining the military and he just doesn’t. We don’t mind if you do, please keep it in your room though.

As for rent, I’m going to say $400 a month with all bills included. It will always, always be less than this, but I just want to be safe. Usually it ends up being between $340 and $350 a month. We have direct tv, central air/heat, wall to wall carpeting in every room but bathroom, kitchen/dining room, and the back room. The carpeting is beige. This is obviously so my dogs could run in with muddy paws and ruin it so we don’t get the deposit back. I plan on changing it once we have the money to do so. There is also a washer/dryer hook up in the house, but we haven’t been able to afford any of these luxuries. We have a dishwasher, and plenty of cabinet space for plenty of stuff.

We do ask that you buy your own groceries or, if you are going to eat ours, please help pay for them. Our other rule is please do not walk around naked when the rest of us our home. This has happened before. We would prefer a student or military, as long as you are awesome and relatively quiet. If you have friends, that’s cool cause we totally don’t and need to make some new ones. We just moved down here. We’d prefer if you did not have children, being that this is Corpus Christi, I know this is hard to do, but I do not trust my dogs around small humans, and I’d just rather they not be in my house. If you are a neat freak, this might not be the place for you. I’m a little cluttered, but not skeezy.
I keep fish for a living. My house is covered in fish stuff. Fish tanks, fish paintings, fish posters, etc. It is probably overwhelming for a normal person, so if it weirds you out let me know. Please send me an email if this seems like the house for you!

Copied from my myspace. [09 Sep 2009|12:49am]
I'm too lazy to write another blog.

I don't know how many of you follow my facebook and how many of you have been waiting to hear what's going on in my life through myspace, because I haven't updated in so long.
You could call you know. I'm lonely here.
haha.

I apparently almost got fired and was completely unaware. I had a meeting with James today in his office. The other guys decided not to come. They were looking for my replacement and interviewing other people. They just "didn't fit." By "didn't fit" I assume it meant "asking too much money."
Apparently there is no problem with my fish keeping skills. They are perfect...the skills that, you know, I was hired for. Their problem with me is my customer service skills. They say that I am too shy. We get approximately five customers a week. It is my job to breed fish. If I am the only one there, damn right I'm helping customers if they come in. If Mark is there checking his facebook? I'm going to let him grab the customer. And not that I won't help, but seriously. I'm actually doing work. My section of the store is from the grow out tanks to the entrance. Everything outside of my fish realm is not my responsibility. Not to mention, that I don't know as much about them as Mark and James do, and I am consistently looking like an ass in front of customers, and every two seconds I'm re asking the questions that the customers are asking me to Mark or James. It's easier for me to do my job, and for them to do theirs.
I am blown away though, that because I expect to be able to do my job, and expect them to do theirs, that I almost got fired because of it. Every single day I come in, I feed the fish, I do twenty water changes one day a week, every single day the babies get water changed, I feed fifty billion animals a day with specific measured amounts of food, I have to make new food cultures, I have to CLEAN. EVERYTHING. It doesn't matter who made that mess, it was left there for me to clean up. I constantly have to go around the store and get rid of Mark's empty soda cans cause he leaves them everywhere around the stupid store. Plus, I help customers when they come in, I run the register, I run the website, and I make all the water, along with any other emergencies that come up. I can't believe I almost got fired because I am "too shy."
And I am sad that probably the only reason that I DIDN'T get fired is because I am the only person they could find willing to accept their low pay rate.

In other news, I spoke with my recruiter for the first time today. Petty Officer Debolt. He's a very nice guy and we went over some questions I had. I take my ASVAB's on Tuesday, the 29th. I'm very nervous! I want to be trained as a Marine Science Technician (MST) and they need to have very good math scores. I've been taking a LOT of practices tests. My average for math is 76. I'm going to have to go back to look at problems that I'm just sucking at. Shaun is helping me out with fractions. I think fractions are things you're supposed to know in third grade. Uh oh. Hopefully hopefully I can be trained as an MST. If not, they can train me as an AMT. I could work on airplanes. Since I can't fly them. I will be most excited to do my active duty every year. Boot camp takes up active duty for the first year, but after that I can go on a boat and live out on the ocean!!! If I get the MST position, I will be working in different ports all over the world checking for chemicals, pollution, etc.
If I had signed up just last Thursday, I would not have been able to join because of the Sea Shepherd tattoo I just got. Luckily, they changed that this Friday.
I'll go through boot camp in NJ, so I expect all my NJ friends to be there for my graduation!!! I'll let you know when that happens. After that I will come back to Corpus cause I will be stationed here to work. That way, I can still work at Job That Does Not Want Me, go to school, and still live at home instead of on a ship. haha. I already meet the physical requirements of enlisting. At 5'2 I have to be at most 145 pounds. Except that I am completely out of shape. So I want to get in better shape before I enlist. PO Debolt is impressed that I can already do as many push-ups as I can, so I am proud of myself. And he was happy that I've already been doing practice tests, know which rate I want to get into, and he got me all set up to take my test at least. I still have to have my background check, my drug tests, a miltary physical and all that stuff. Then I get sent off to boot camp! Which will probably be sometime in the winter. Of course. I'd rather work out in the cold than in the heat of summer. I was hoping to go sometime next September, but I think just getting it out of the way sooner might be better. Just want to get into shape first. Running is going to kill me!! I'm pretty excited for the classroom stuff. I'm going to be a real sailor! Sea Shepherd can't deny me now. Tattoo AND military experience?! Psh.
My recruiter didn't even say anything about my pink hair. haha. He was a very nice guy. He also told me to tell Shaun and my family not to worry because there's no way I will be sent off to war. I can't even go Active Duty if I wanted to. The military is already all filled up. Especially the Coast Guard. they were talking shit about the Army and the Marines while I was filling out my paperwork. They say that they treat them like crap, and that you don't even have to worry about your ASVAB score or anything because you are just a body to them.
I'm pretty nervous about my ASVAB scores. It's like getting into the college I want. And technically, it really is about getting into college. But man. If I get into the MST training program, I will basically have a set job for life in the marine field. Plus it mixes the marine stuff with the chemistry that I actually do like, as opposed to the math chemistry of which I do not like. My old chemistry teacher used to build bombs. She was an awesome lady. I can't remember her name. I just wish I liked chemistry more, but I think I was lucky to have her as a teacher.
I thought I'd be more nervous, but my recruiter is very nice, boot camp is only eight weeks and I know I can do it, and then from there on out, it's on the job training, travel, and making new friends.

....and free bowling on the base. mmmm...free bowling.

What's everyone being for Halloween? I'm being Charlie, he's the ghost on the USS Lexington. It really just gives me an excuse to buy a vintage 40's sailor outfit.

4:26PM [18 Aug 2009|04:26pm]
I don't update here almost ever.
Things have been alright lately.
Ryan and I broke up, and with every word that comes out of his mouth I am more and more grateful that I didn't take him back. Apparently tonight he wants to have an orgy. In my house. I told him no. I also told him that Shaun would say no.
He says that obviously this is not something he'd do without running it by him.
As much as I'd love a bunch of fat people and ugly people fucking in my house, I just don't think now is that time.

I set up my fish tank, but just realized that I'll need an extension cord. We have one at work, but I've also decided that I do not like the position of my tank. I'm going to have to drain it and then move it.

Shaun and my cat, Jack passed away yesterday. We either left Shaun's bedroom door open, or didn't close it enough, and he got out and Hannah killed him. He died quickly from internal injuries most likely. There was no bleeding from him, but on his side, Hannah's face and ears have been ripped to shreds. Shaun buried him last night. He's feeling very guilty, but it's not his fault. Accidents happen. It's hard to tell someone that it will be ok, and that accidents happen when they feel so guilty. There's not really anything that you can say to make them feel better. My mom ran over Coal a few weeks ago and she died. My mom felt really bad. And a couple years ago, I left a rat in my retic's cage and for two hours it ate my snake, who was still alive when I found her two hours later. I had to put her down myself.
But shit happens, and you learn from it, and it sucks that we have to learn through Coal or Jack's or Maddie's deaths, but you can't change it. Hannah doesn't realize what she did wrong. She does know now that she did do something wrong, but I honestly don't think she knows exactly what it is. But she's definitely feeling uncomfortable for the time being. I'm trying to be nice to her so that she knows it's not her fault, but that we are angry and a loot of it will be taken out on her. Not physically obviously. But it's weird to be around her now.

Hopefully she heals without a lot of scarring.

Stan is doing well. he hangs in his cage or with me. I need to get him a better cage cause the one he is in is falling apart. I might forgo a bed and buy a new cage for him. Have to see how much they cost.

recently, I swam with beluga whales. Ryan got it for my birthday. It's an "interactive program" they have with whales or sea lions. So it was pretty awesome. The water was about fifty degrees, so that was cold. You don't even notice it though cause you are swimming with whales. I got to do hand signals, and feed them, and provide them with positive reinforcement. the trainer who was with us was really cool. It's definitely something I want to do again, and I think that it is something that Shaun would also really like.
After we did that, we went to the Riverwalk which is famous in San Antonio. It was cute, but not really anything that I would make a big deal over. We were gonna go to a restaurant called Dick's where the waiters are assholes. Apparently that means that your meal is going to be over fourteen dollars. We left and went to Joe's Crab Shack next door. I got chicken fingers for half of what they were at Dick's.
Then we drove home.

Shaun got me a Sea Shepherd tattoo for my birthday. It's on the back of my calf. It looks really good, but apparently we paid far too much for it. i met a guy named Jesse the next day who bought some corals from us, nad he was like, "uh, I could've done that for fifty bucks." So there's that. Regardless, it is an awesome tattoo. It makes me want to wear shorts more often. haha.
Unfortunately I have to shave my legs more often too...

I put Jack in the freezer last night before we buried him. Ryan complained about it. Cause Jack was on "his" food. It appears that it didn't bother him enough to eat the food.
i keep getting sidetracked in this entry.
I think I am going to go for now.

Writer's Block: All Broken Up [20 Jun 2009|05:18pm]

Have you ever had a bad break-up with a significant other? How did you handle it?

View 500 Answers

oh lawdy. Ok.
Let's start at the beginning. And when I come to the end, I will stop.

When I dated Pete and broke up with him "for good" when I met Newman, he threatened Newman's family. I told him that if I ever saw or heard from him again, I would kill him with my bare hands.

Then I met Shaun and broke up with Newman after our Canada trip. He tried to kill himself.

Then when I broke up with Shaun, he freaked out, crying and slamming his head against the brick wall. It was bad. Not sure how I handled it. Probably with coldness.

Alright guys [17 Dec 2008|11:58am]
I just got a myspace message from someone complaining my lack of defense. I am twenty three years old. Unfortunately, I am over livejournal drama. I went through that when I was eighteen. There are far more important things in my life right now, than defending people, who are more than capable of defending themselves.
"God" (or my genetic makeup) did not put me on earth to defend people.
Cheesy or not, I wake up in the morning and my first thought is about the animals. Where are they, have they eaten yet, and is my Christmas tree destroyed.
Then we move onto the animals that are not mine. How many dogs stayed overnight? Did the infected mother dog survive her c-section, did all the puppies survive, or just the one (it was just the one for the record.). Who is going to come in today because of some retarded human being that doesn't know how to take care of an animal?
Then I move onto the big animals. The ones that I love more than I will ever, ever love you.
I will think about the big sharks, and I will hope that at least one of them got away for today. I will think about Operation Mushashi and thank a something that there that there are people like Paul Watson, to stand up and act as the people like me, who can't afford to be, a person like him. I think about the Japanese and how they could be so heartless as to kill something that can not defend itself. That watches while it's family is first electrocuted. Then stuffed with small explosives, and then is drowned to death and then cut up for "Scientific research." I think about the fact that in a couple of years from now, certain species of animals will be gone forever. That baby seals are being clubbed to death not even making two weeks old.
And then I think about Toby, who has to swim day in and day out in a counterclockwise circle, with the only things to keep him entertained are a rope, some new people to look at once in a while, and masturbation. Now I know to some of you mouth breathers, that's fucking awesome. But dolphins are far more evolved than you.
It makes me sad that the ocean is so sick nowadays, that he felt that the only thing good for him was to try and kill himself. That only about twenty or so people are here, keeping him alive, people who have to go to Mexico every few months to pick up his medicine because you can't get it in America, people who spend four hundred dollars a DAY to keep him breathing, people who risk their own health, who held him up because he couldn't swim on his own for forty eight hours straight, people who have saved his life.
And you are mad at me because you were offended that someone said something about you on livejournal?
Please, take some time out to think about the important things.
